ESS4 and ESS5 Corrected design weights for Israel

All Israeli respondents in ESS4 and ESS5 have been assigned wrong design weights.

The ESS Data website has been updated with a cumulative data file for the first five rounds of the ESS.

All rounds of the ESS have been updated in a major upgrade of the ESS Data website 18.12.12. Note that edition 3.0 of data and documentation of the new ESS5 data release also includes one new country, Lithuania, taking the total number of countries in the ESS5 data release to 27.

The Austrian data for ESS round 4 was released 28.09.12. The release also includes Austrian interviewer and parents' occupation data. All data files are accessible under country files on the ESS4 - 2008 Data Download page.

ESS Multilevel Data launched

The ESS Multilevel Data resource, partly funded by the Descartes Research Prize awarded the ESS, was launched on 18th of September.

The ESS MD is a resource that contains data about individuals (the ESS respondents), regions and countries, and incorporates contextual variables on a number of themes, including demography, geography, economy, health, education and crime.

Education upgrade ESS1-ESS4

For ESS rounds 1 to 4 there has been an upgrade of the harmonised variables for highest level of education.

As of 02.02.2011, the former 7 category EDULVL variables for respondent, partner, father and mother have been replaced by a 5 category EDULVLA variables.

In addition, depending on the availability and level of detail of country specific education variables, new 7 category harmonised education variables EISCED have been produced.

Sample design data files (SDDF) are available in SAS and SPSS format, along with a PDF file describing the structure and use of the SDDFs.
