Codes 313, 321 and 323 in Estonian country-specific education variables for respondent, partner, father and mother have been mixed up and need recoding in order to properly reflect distribution of education in Estonia. Recoded versions of EDLVDEE/EDLVPDEE/EDLVFDEE/EDLVMDEE will be available in future releases of the ESS5 data.

See below for suggested temporary solution to the problem, based on a recoding of the most recent version (as of 14th of June 2013) of the integrated file in SPSS (in this example, stored locally in folder "ESS" on the C: drive):

All Croatian respondents in ESS5 have been assigned wrong codes on REGION variable. Respondents belonging to Northwestern Croatia(HR01) were mistakenly coded into HR03 (Adriatic Croatia), whereas respondents in Central and Eastern (Pannonian) Croatia (HR02) were mistakenly coded HR01 (Northwestern Croatia). Finally, respondents in Adriatic Croatia (HR03) were erroneously coded HR02 (Central and Eastern (Pannonian) Croatia).

A recoded version of REGION will be available in future releases of the of the ESS5 data. The ESS Data website has been updated with a cumulative data file for the first five rounds of the ESS. The cumulative data are available from the ESS Cumulative Data Wizard, where users can customise their own subsets of data in different formats.

All rounds of the ESS have been updated in a major upgrade of the ESS Data website 18.12.12. Note that edition 3.0 of data and documentation of the new ESS5 data release also includes one new country, Lithuania, taking the total number of countries in the ESS5 data release to 27.

The ESS Multilevel Data resource, partly funded by the Descartes Research Prize awarded the ESS, was launched on 18th of September.

The ESS MD is a resource that contains data about individuals (the ESS respondents), regions and countries, and incorporates contextual variables on a number of themes, including demography, geography, economy, health, education and crime.

In the ESS5 interviewer data for Ireland, the interviewer numbers (INTNUM) are inconsistent. The variable will be revised and corrected in future editions of the data.

The first edition of test data (edition 1.0) from supplementary questionnaire for ESS round 5 was released on September 3rd, 2012.

Edition 1.0 is available on the ESS5 - 2010 Data Download page and includes Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and United Kingdom.

The ESS5 parents' occupation data for Ireland and Ukraine have been added to the ESS data web site along with a new version of the parents' occupation file for Israel. The files are accessible on the ESS5 - 2010 Data Download page as separate country files or as a zipped folder containing all country files and an integrated ISCO file.

For three countries, Croatia, Israel and Ukraine, variable GRSPAYA (G56) has been deposited without converting national currency to euro. Prior to use in cross-national comparisons, this variable should thus be adjusted by dividing substantial (ie non-missing) values by 7.058 (Croatia), 4.950154 (Israel) and 11.552 (Ukraine) respectively. The denominators reflect national conversion rates to euro at the time of fieldwork. Recoded versions of GRSPAYA for Croatia, Israel and Ukraine will be available in future releases of the ESS5 data.
